Construction Material Testing Services

AGEC is committed to provide timely and reliable construction-materials observation, testing, and inspection services. Our organization goes beyond the typical "testing" and "inspection" by providing engineering support for technical questions that may arise during construction. This support assists in maintaining control of cost and quality of construction. Each observation/inspection/testing project is provided with an AGEC Project Manager, assigned to follow the project from the proposal through reporting. Timely response for testing and inspection services is critical to maintain quality of constructed facilities. We maintain close contact with the superintendent or our client's representative and our technicians/inspectors to minimize the possibility of missing a critical placement or activity that requires our service. Our experience has frequently allowed us to advise the contractor of potential problems with respect to construction materials and procedures before they occur. We initiate contact with the design team/contractor if and when testing or inspection results indicate non-compliance with the specifications.

Construction Materials Testing Certifications

AGEC's construction materials testing (CMT) and special inspection services personnel have certifications by the International Code Council (ICC) for:

  • structural masonry
  • reinforcing concrete
  • prestressed concrete
  • spray applied fire proofing
  • structural steel
  • structural steel and welding
  • non-destructive testing

In addition, AGEC's personnel have certifications from the American Concrete Institute (ACI), American Welding Society, Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (WAQTC). Most field inspectors are nuclear gauge trained.

Construction Materials Observation and Special Inspection

AGEC professionals will work with client representatives to develop scope-of-services plans for the project, including cost schedules. AGEC Construction Services are managed by Mr. Brian Ranniger (Sandy), Mr. Mike Shurtz (Cedar City) and Mr. Rod Cox, (St. George), who have responsibility to designate appropriate resources to assure project success. Projects will be assigned an AGEC Project Manager responsible for all AGEC tasks at the project site. Staff mobilization is coordinated through dispatch services in Sandy, Cedar City and St. George. Certified AGEC inspectors and technicians go beyond the typical "testing" and "inspection" by providing special support for technical questions that may arise during construction. Our experience frequently allows us to advise the contractor of potential construction materials and procedure problems before they occur. We initiate contact with the design team/contractor if and when testing or inspection results indicate a noncompliance with the specifications. This comprehensive engineering support assists in maintaining control of costs and quality of construction.

Construction Materials Testing

Our field-deployed construction quality-control equipment includes concrete testing equipment, sealed single-ring and double-ring infiltrometers, nuclear moisture-density gauges, concrete floor flatness and levelness Dipstick and field laboratories.

Construction-materials samples requiring laboratory testing are collected at the project site and delivered to either our in-house laboratories or on-site field laboratories, as project requirements dictate. Our construction-materials laboratories have the capability of measuring the engineering parameters necessary to assure compliance to project specifications. Testing results are reported to client representatives and AGEC field professionals for evaluation and project documentation.
